
You are invited to a special preview opportunity at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13. This will be an opportunity to view the mural ahead of the sidewalk opening!
The mural is located on the retaining wall at the south end of the bridge at the intersection of Broadway Ave. and 3rd St. *Street parking is available on Third St. and Fourth St. near the mural.
At the special preview, the following speakers will share more about the completion of the bridge project, the mural, and the artistic elements featured in the mural.

More information about the artist: Kansas City artist Phil “Sike Style” Shafer was selected to complete the project this Spring after a year-long selection process led by Art in the Loop. Sike Style is known for his vibrant and dynamic murals that capture the spirit of the community. Sike Style began work on the mural to honor the legacy of baseball legend Buck O’Neil in early April 2025. More information about the Buck O’Neil Bridge: The new Buck O’Neil Bridge was opened in late 2024. The new bridge is anticipated to last for 100 years or more and will require much less costly maintenance. It will provide direct connections from Interstate 35 to U.S. Highway 169, dedicated lanes to downtown Kansas City, a new bike/pedestrian lane, access improvements at the downtown airport, and a scenic overlook with benches.
